Moxii Africa, the South African National Editors' Forum (SANEF), and Africa Check have announced the formation of PIIE, a multi-stakeholder coalition dedicated to protecting information integrity during South Africa's 2026 Local Government Elections.

The coalition brings together civil society organisations, media houses, technology platforms, fact-checkers, and state organs to coordinate a shared, evidence-led response to election disinformation.

A coordinated response

PIIE will focus on real-time monitoring, rapid debunking of false narratives, and the amplification of verified information across languages and platforms.

"Disinformation does not respect organisational boundaries, so our response cannot either," the coalition partners said in a joint statement.
