Real411 has been officially gazetted as the designated platform for reporting digital disinformation during South Africa's elections. The notice, published in the Government Gazette, confirms what the platform was built for: giving every South African a single, transparent place to report content designed to mislead voters.
Designation is formal recognition that complaints about digital election disinformation should be lodged through Real411, where they can be assessed consistently and on the record.
Real411 accepts reports in four categories, and you can select more than one for a single report:
If you see a doctored image, a fabricated "statement", a fake account impersonating a candidate or official, or a claim engineered to mislead voters — report it.
Go to real411.org.za/complaints/submit, choose the category or categories that fit, say where you saw the content, and attach supporting material if you have it — JPG, PNG, PDF or MP4, up to 10MB. Your contact details are kept confidential.
You choose how closely you are kept informed. Off sends only the final resolved notice. Standard notifies you when your complaint is received, in progress and resolved. Every step sends an update at each transition. Resolved complaints are published in the Real411 complaints archive, which can be browsed by type, platform and outcome.
Elections are decided by informed voters, and disinformation is designed to break exactly that. A single trusted reporting channel — designated, transparent and accountable — means false content can be dealt with in days, not news cycles.
