As a response to the growing attacks against journalists, Ntsako Manganyi explained that Moxii Africa established monitoring and responding to attacks against journalists (Mars). “It provides a reporting tool for journalists and media supporters, creates a common, anonymised archive of attacks, and transforms individual reports into collective evidence for action.”

He added that roughly 60-74% of journalists in South Africa faced online harassment, social media abuse, and targeted intimidation. Manganyi emphasised the importance of archiving attacks faced by journalists as it was a way to create evidence that can inform policy, platform engagement, and journalist safety interventions.
